Pirate Party

Here are some pictures from my daughter’s 5th pirate themed birthday party. The invitations were “messages in a bottle” that we hand delivered to each child. I don’t have pictures of the invitations, but I am working on that. I hand burned the edges, rolled them up,  and tied them with twin and a small gold coin before sealing them in the bottle. At the party we all started in one area playing pirate themed yard games with pirate music playing. Once everyone arrived  I had the kids go through a treasure/obstacle course to earn their pirate ware (vests, eyepatches, sashes, hats, and jewels.) The only station that I do not have any pictures of is the Crocodile Swamp. At this station I made crocodiles by cutting them out of green cardboard and painting eyes and teeth on them. I staked the crocodiles all over the “swamp” area and then put out red felt circles with pirate ships painted on them all over the swamp. We played a version of musical chairs and when the music stopped the little pirates had to hop on a ship circle to be safe from the crocodiles. The kids were fantastic and didn’t want to stop! To set up boundaries for all of the stations I posted signs with a shark image on them saying “Shark Waters. . . Do Not Enter”. At the beginning of the party I told all of the kids that if they saw a sign with a shark that they could not go past it. The kids loved spotting all of the sharks and they all stayed together as a group as we went through the treasure hunt. At the end of the treasure hunt we found ourselves in the Pirate Hideaway party room. While we were getting the cake ready the kids decorated treasure chests with dot paints and jewel stickers. I put each kid’s name on their treasure chest using pirate letters. After they were done decorating we played in the giant pirate ship, ate cake, and opened presents. It was a really fun party. . . will definitly be a repeat for my son some year (I already have more ideas brewing on how to improve!) This was a really fun party and I hope that my son wants to have a Pirate themed birthday some year. Enjoy the pictures!
